Chairman's Report

For the Chairman of the Committee to provide an update to the Committee on recent scrutiny related activity.



Modern Slavery Inquiry

This item is an evidence gathering item for the Committee’s Modern Slavery Inquiry. Members will examine:

·         Best practice in relation to the role of modern slavery partnership networks, what makes them effective, the challenges and barriers involved and what drives change.

·         They will hear about the numbers of calls to the Modern Slavery helpline run by Unseen.   

·         Victim profiling and victim perspective.

·         How to build an understanding of prevalence.

·         The plans for a pilot victim service to be set up in Bucks, what it will look like, its aims, focus and how the inquiry can help shape and inform it going forward

The Committee has received one public question from Mr Terry Reilly which is included in the report pack within this agenda.



The public question item is an opportunity for members of the public to put a question or raise an issue of concern, related to Environment, Transport and Locality Services.   Where possible, the relevant organisation to which the question/issue is directed will be present to give a verbal response.  Members of the public will be invited to speak for up to four minutes on their issue.  A maximum of 30 minutes is set aside for the Public Questions slot in total (including responses and any Committee discussion). This may be extended with the Chairman’s discretion.

Modern Slavery Inquiry - Interim Report : What steps should the Council take to ensure it fully meets the responsibilities under the Modern Slavery Act 2015?

Members will consider and agree the draft Inquiry interim report for stage one of the Modern Slavery Inquiry. Subject to Member approval, it will be reported to Cabinet on the 8th January 2018.
