Aylesbury Community Board action notes 9 March 2021

The action notes from the last meeting were agreed.

A look back at our achievements from 2020/21. To be presented by Mark Winn, Susan Morgan and Amy Jenner.

Mark Winn, Susan Morgan and Amy Jenner gave a presentation on the work of the board over the last year (the first year of the board) which included the board’s top priorities and successes, allocated funding and project summaries.

In response to a question as to whether funding awarded in the last financial year could still be used in this financial year, it was confirmed that this funding could be spent in the 2021/22 financial year only.

Susan Morgan gave a presentation on the board priorities and the plans for 2021/ 2022. The priorities would support the work of the action groups, and it was noted that the ‘enhancing the lives of our youth’ priority would feed into all of the action groups.

Priorities:

·       Enhancing the lives of our youth.

·       Economy recovery.

·       Improving the environment.

·       Health and wellbeing.

·       Road safety, highways and infrastructure.

·       Community safety.

A new initiative called 'Communi-tea Friends' had been set up by Maria Butler, and aimed to reduce social isolation in the community.

A community champion network ‘Community Champions United’ had also been set up, supported by Aylesbury Community Board and Aylesbury Town Council and was an action group with the aim of supporting the Those in Community Champion type roles across the town.

Amy Jenner shared an overview of the Health & Wellbeing Recovery priorities for the Aylesbury Community Board area on behalf of the Director of Public Health. The Countywide Director of Public Health report was referenced, and it was asked whether an action plan could be drawn up to accompany the report, so that the board could see what steps will be taken to improve the health and wellbeing of the people of Aylesbury. Action (Amy Jenner): to ask Public Health for an action plan and circulate to the board.

The board received a presentation on the Tech Lab Project which was phase 2 of the Youth Views Project and related to the community board priority ‘enhancing the lives of our youth’. Young people took part in sessions with Aylesbury Action Youth over 3 – 4 weeks and were asked what was important to them, and what things they thought would be helpful for the council to know. The outcome of the sessions was that an app should be created to survey young people to find out what is important to them, which would help to ensure the council and other local organisations are listening to young people.

Working at the Bucks UTC tech lab, groups of young people came up with ideas for an app, presented their ideas and then voted for the top idea which went on to be developed. Some of the young people involved in creating the app were in attendance at the community board meeting and shared their experiences of taking part in the project.

The app had now gone ‘live’, and the young people were asking the community board for their support in promoting the app. Communications had been sent out to year 6 and secondary school pupils, and a QR code shared, but further communications would be released. It was suggested that leaflets promoting the app be distributed at schools and Amy Jenner (action) would look into this. It was noted that the deadline for completing the survey was the end of September 2021. Members of the board welcomed the suggestion for the board to promote the app, and expressed thanks to the young people for coming along to share their experiences.

Members of the board were asked to promote some key community messages within their networks.

·       The covid-19 ‘Health on the Move’ vaccine bus was due to visit the Quarrendon & Meadowcroft Community Centre on Friday 30 July 2021.

·       The Guttmann vaccination centre at Stoke Mandeville Stadium were offering drop-in appointments for Pfizer covid-19 vaccinations every day this month until Saturday 31 July, from 9.30am to 7pm. These were for first and second jabs for people aged 18 and over. Members of the board were reminded to leave an 8 - week gap between doses. Bookable appointments were also still available across Bucks via https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/ . It was noted that this information and times and dates were subject to change, and updated would be posted on the CCG website.

Members of the board received a paper which detailed information on the board’s budget, projects/ organisations that the community board had funded, and projects/ organisations awaiting funding decisions as of 16 June 2021. It was noted that unallocated funds from the budget in the last financial year (2020/ 2021) had been reserved into this financial year (2021/ 2022) as a one off due to the pandemic hindering collaboration work to a greater extent. It was noted that the board could not core fund organisations but could work with organisations to work out what could be funded.

The board were looking for more projects/ organisations to fund and make connections with.

In terms of applying for funding, it was advised that Amy Jenner be contacted in the first instance to provide information on the funding and application process, as well as support with checking that projects meet the criteria in advance of submitting an application.
