ePetition details

We the undersigned petition the council to Create a safe cycle path along side the A412 between Denham and West Hyde or county border

H2S works has caused an increase in large lorry movements as well as traffic lights and road works making this stretch of road even more dangerous for cyclists. An alternative safe route along Tilehouse Lane is due to be closed, by HS2, for 6 months.

Increasing numbers of large lorries, especially tipper ones thunder along this road at 50mph, their muddy tyres make the road very slippery and clods of mud are often flung into the air. There is not even a footpath between West Hyde and Denham Studios

This fast well used road is set to become even more dangerous for cyclists. Please consider and quickly action positively in response to this petition.

Council response

NIck Naylor, Cabinet Member for Transport has responded as follows:

Thank you for submitting this petition, which has highlighted the strong local support that exists for improved walking and cycling infrastructure along the A412 corridor. The construction impacts of the High Speed 2 (HS2) project will cause significant disruption for all road users and residents across the Buckinghamshire Council area for years to come and the Council is doing everything within its power to manage and mitigate these impacts wherever possible. We will shortly be opening up opportunities for local town and parish councils to apply for a portion of Buckinghamshire’s allocation from the HS2 Road Safety Fund to help provide a legacy of safer roads in areas that are impacted by HS2 construction including traffic calming measures, safer pedestrian crossings or safer routes for cyclists, pedestrians and drivers.

Buckinghamshire Council is working with partners at the Colne Valley Regional Park and Hertfordshire County Council to bring forward an active travel route along the A412 corridor, connecting Denham and West Hyde. A feasibility study to develop this route has been commissioned; its outputs will be used to understand how the scheme could be delivered and to inform future bids to secure necessary funding.

It should be noted that this proposal has a significant interface with the HS2 line of route, including the Colne Valley Viaduct. Subject to development of the A412 active travel scheme and further engagement with HS2, it may be that parts of the route can only be commissioned following completion of HS2 construction activity in the area.

The A412 active travel route forms part of the Council’s wider strategic vision for walking and cycling routes in Buckinghamshire, with work commencing later this year on a Buckinghamshire Cycling and Walking Strategy. This will set out priorities for investment in active travel infrastructure over the coming years. More information on some of the priority routes and networks can be found at: https://www.buckscc.gov.uk/services/transport-and-roads/cycling-and-walking/new-walking-and-cycling-routes/ or by contacting the Council at: gdsmailbox@buckinghamshire.gov.uk

We are working hard with local communities to bring this vision forward as quickly as possible so that we can all benefit from this resource in the not too distant future.
