Petition details

We the undersigned petition the council to reduce the speed limit on that stretch of road from 70mph to 50, or 40mph between the two roundabouts. The stretch of the A413 that runs between Denham, Gerrards Cross and Chalfont St. Peter is currently a national speed limit road. This speed limit is totally inappropriate, especially between Kingsway and Greyhound roundabout connecting Gerrards Cross and Chalfont St. Peter. There is not even a reduction in speed as you approach Kingsway roundabout from either side. Joining this roundabout is like taking your life into your own hands and recently there have been a spate of incidents and accidents causing risk to safety for local residents and road users. The road is also used by pedestrians crossing from the Chalfont Heights estate going towards Gerrards Cross to reach the station and local schools.

The section of road between the two roundabouts is small and does not justify a 70mph speed limit and a reduction in speed limit would make an immaterial difference to journey times. Immediately, at the greyhound roundabout the limit drops to 30mph - a slowdown which is much too abrupt. Claims of this stretch of road’s use as a relief road and therefore warranting national speed limit are unfounded given that the speed limit drops shortly after.

This petition aims to build on existing campaigns via the community board and NAG to reduce the speed limit on that stretch of road from 70mph to 50, or 40mph between the two roundabouts.
