Honorary Alderman

In accordance with Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972 to confer the title of Honorary Alderman on the following persons who have rendered eminent service to the Council:

 

1.         Pam Appleby

            - First elected 1979

            - Retired 2015

 

2.         Philip Priestley

            - First Elected 1979-1989; 1995

            - Retired 2011

 

3.         Dr John Warder MBE

            - First Elected 1991

            - Retired 2015

 

Minutes:

The Chairman, after welcoming everyone, explained that the Special Meeting had been convened in accordance with Section 249 (1) of the Local Government Act 1972 to confer the title of Honorary Alderman upon Pam Appleby MBE, John Warder MBE and Philip Priestley for their eminent service during their terms of office as members of Chiltern District Council.  Each had served the Council as follows:

 

·         Pam Appleby MBE - first elected 1967 to Amersham Rural District Council, and subsequently elected to Chiltern District Council since 1979; and retired May 2015;

 

·         John Warder MBE - first elected 1991 to Chiltern District Council, and retired May 2015; and

 

·         Philip Priestley - first elected 1979 to Chiltern District Council until March 1989 and then re-elected 1995; and retired May 2011.

 

Following citations made by the Leader Councillor Darby explaining why the honour of Honorary Alderman should be conferred on each former member in recognition of their exceptional service to local government and the community, it was proposed by Councillor Darby and seconded by    Councillor Jones            

 

RESOLVED

 

That the title of Honorary Alderman of Chiltern District Council be conferred on Pam Appleby MBE, John Warder MBE and Philip Priestley.

 

On being put to the meeting, the motion was carried unanimously.

 

The Chairman of the Council presented each of them with an Honorary Alderman’s Medallion which may be worn on all civic occasions.  The Vice-Chairman presented each of them with a framed certificate.
