Background Information

Although we strongly recommend that our tenants and leaseholders take out their own home contents insurance, there are many who do not have any insurance cover and in the event of an accident the consequences can be severe.

At the request of Wycombe Tenants Group, we have investigated various options and appointed Jardine Lloyd Thompson as brokers to administer a specially negotiated low cost scheme on behalf of tenants and leaseholders in the Wycombe District.

Details of the Home Contents Insurance Scheme

The scheme is being introduced at no cost to Wycombe District Council. It will be administered in its entirety by Jardine Lloyd Thompson. They will handle all applications, be responsible for all general administration including issuing policy documentation, collecting premiums and investigating and settling claims.

Jardine Lloyd Thompson will provide regular reports to Wycombe District Council to advise about take up of the scheme.

Wycombe District Council will advertise the scheme in the tenants’ newsletter and hand out information at sign ups for new tenancies. Staff will not be expected to deal with any enquiries in respect of the scheme.

Who is eligible?

We have negotiated low cost home contents insurance with Jardine Lloyd Thompson for tenants and leaseholders of Wycombe District Council and also other Registered Social Landlords in the District.

Cost

The cost is the same for tenants and leaseholders throughout the Wycombe District i.e. it does not vary according to the area of the District in which the property is located.

Cover

All home contents are covered on a ‘new for old’ basis with the exception of linen and clothing, which will be replaced at their current cost less an amount for wear and tear.

There are no excesses to pay on the policy.

Launch of the scheme.

The scheme is being launched with the Spring Edition of Housing Matters, which is to be delivered to all tenants and leaseholders during May. New tenants will be given an information pack when they sign up for their new tenancy.
