Introduction

 

This report outlines the six-month position [01 April to 30 September 2004] for the Council’s Youth and Voluntary Sector priorities.

Priority: Youth

Summary and Analysis

 

q

15 of the entries for 2004/05 are on track. Progress is slower than expected on 14 entries and 2 entries are stalled.

 

q

The new Youth Services Officer is in post and is focusing on strengthening links with youth organisations as necessary groundwork towards achieving the Council’s aims for youth.

 

q

As part of developing the new community Plan for Wycombe District, the Wycombe Youth Council and other young people are having their say about the future of the district and what matters most to them

 

q

Over 10,000 young people are signed up to “Lifestyles”  - the Council’s leisure pass scheme run by Wycombe Leisure Limited

 

q

The Council has provided 3 new facilities for young people at various locations in the district and its mobile skate park has visited 4 locations

 

q

The Council has introduced a scheme which is helping 7 young mothers with housing needs  

 

q

While there are several good examples of improvements as a result of closer working with other organisations, more work is needed to achieve a clearer. More focused and co-ordinated approach.

The COMPACT showing how the Council and community clubs, groups and organisations can work more closely together has been launched

 

q

The Council’s “Grass Roots” scheme brings together local groups to help them take action to resolve local issues and concerns

 

q

Working with the Council, 38 social enterprises have either been set up or helped to develop
