(Title of Report):  Award of Contract, Castlefield Environmental Improvements. Installation of gates, railings and fencing to council properties.

Ward(s) affected: Castlefield and Booker

Decision:

To award the contract for the works to Coates Fencing Ltd. based on the tender submission of £160,973.50 and to release the full capital allocation of £225,000 to meet the cost of the contract including contingencies and additional fencing at properties not yet included in the contract.

Reason for Decision

This was the only priced tender received and is within budget provision.

Consultation Undertaken:

The consultation included a Planning for Real event, which was held in the local school in 1999. The event demonstrated that residents considered the improvement of the service road environment to be critical to the reduction of crime and the improvement of local living conditions. There has been ongoing liaison with the community, particularly through the Castlefield Challenge Partnership. Ward Members have also been involved throughout the project.

Each council tenant within the project area has been consulted and offered a choice of fencing type to suit their particular preferences.
