Agenda and draft minutes

The Chairman extended a warm welcome to all those in attendance and introduced Councillor Denise Summers as the new Vice-Chairman of the Board. The Chairman thanked Councillor Susan Morgan for her time as Vice-Chairman, providing support to him and the Community Board.

A brief description of the Community Board and the values and purpose of the Board was provided.

Apologies for absence were received from Councillors M Baldwin, N Hussain, S Lambert, D Thompson, S Chapple, S James and A Christensen.

There were no declarations of interest.

Amy Jenner, Senior Community Board Manager, advised of the relevant housekeeping rules and procedures and highlighted evacuation points.

RESOLVED that the action notes from the last meeting be approved.

Sgt Claire Farrow provided an update on the work of Thames Valley Police in the Community Board area. The following points were highlighted:

·       The Serious assault of attempted murder of a 15-year-old - this was particularly resource intensive. TVP were grateful for witnesses’ support.

·       Focus on engagement with schools and education around carrying weapons and the impact.

·       Operation Sceptre – TVP wide operation which is focussed on knife crime. This includes engaging with shops to prevent underage sales.

·       Work around NOSS cans with Southcourt Baptist Church – amnesty bins.

·       Working with Jewish and Muslim communities regarding risk of hate crimes. On Saturday 21 October 2023 there was a peaceful march around Aylesbury.

·       TVP structural changes - 13 LPAS going to 5 LCU’s from April 2024 and merging with South Bucks. Superintendent will be Emma Burrows.  

·       Southcourt Boxing Club is still going strong – in the last 6 months, funding has been sought from Fairhive, Buckinghamshire Council and Aylesbury Town Council to support sustainability. Age range 10 – 60 years old. Wednesday 6-8.30pm at Southcourt Baptist Church, everyone welcome.

·       Alan Sherwell – asked about shop lifting and risk to shop owners and shop staff and the importance of understanding why people shoplift.

o   TVP work with ORD and Health Services for referrals to support with Community Resolutions to support with the root cause of the shop lifting.

·       Inconsiderate Parking remains an issue – please continue to report to TVP and Buckinghamshire Council.

Gemma Thomas, Buckinghamshire Heathcare NHS Trust delivered a presentation (as per pages 9 to 13 of the notes pack) and explained the model which is being piloted in Aylesbury for 12 months.

The following points were highlighted:

·       The unit has launched in Friars Square and is available to the public with a weekly schedule of services - Health on the High Street - Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (buckshealthcare.nhs.uk).

·       It was asked if HotHS was linking up with events already happening to direct to and promote

o   Gemma advised that this was happening and there are some strong local links

·       It was asked if HothS were aware of Bucks Online Directory and using as a resource tool – Helen Cavill offered support around any upskilling needed on this.

·       It was asked if the details have been shared with GP Surgeries.

o   HotHS have engaged with PPG explain the service.

o   Denise is keen to support Gemma with further networking

·       Veterans drop in being supported by Pam Daly.

To be presented by Melanie Humble, Healthwatch Bucks.

Melanie Humble, Healthwatch Bucks delivered a presentation on the Healthwatch Bucks volunteering programme (slides can be viewed on pages 14 to 22 of the notes pack). The following points were highlighted:

·       Melanie asked for signposting of people to the programme if they are interested in volunteering opportunities.

·       It was asked how HB were reaching out to volunteers.

o   Roles are currently on the HB portal - Volunteer with Healthwatch Bucks – Healthwatch Bucks

·       Melanie is linking with the Community Boards volunteering priority work.

·       It was recommended that the opportunities were also added to Community Impact Bucks Volunteering Matching Service.

·       Games Club promotion ambitions

Amy Jenner, Senior Community Board Manager provided an update as per slides on pages 23 to 27 of the notes pack.

·       The board has been driving priorities forward with the support of board members, growth has been really positive. Amy talked through the slides to highlight board engagement, priority activity and provided a funding update.

·       Opportunity Bucks – Helen Cavill provided a brief overview of the project in 3 ward areas (N, NW and SW). The project is engaging with partners and residents within the areas. For more information, to get involved and to sign up to the newsletter visit:

·       Amy highlighted Public Health’s Bike Library Pilot planned to take place in the new year.

·       Sgt Clare Farrow noted that TVP may have bikes to donate.

·       Action: Amy to link Clare with Public Health for further conversation - actioned

·       Local resident Dave is working with Amy to look at delivering a project to support local clubs to increase their memberships. Anyone who wants to get involved should contact aylesburycb@buckinghamshire.gov.uk.

·       Lee Lloyd and Lyn Denham from Florence Nightingale Hospice Trust provided an update on the The Wiz project which was part funded by Aylesbury CB.

Residents Jane and Sandy brought the Savernake Road petition to the board.

·       A response was provided by Buckinghamshire Council’s Parking service.

·       Amy highlighted that the Community Board could support with looking at the root cause of the issues and supporting with community conversations to help resolve. Sgt Clare Farrow also offered support from TVP.
